You’ve decided on the type of pump station you need, and you’ve approved the design. Now, it’s time to move forward with the installation. How can you ensure a smooth and complication-free installation process?

At Groundsource Drainage, our engineers have years of experience in successful pump station installations. Here, we outline what to expect during this phase of your pump station life cycle, how to prepare for it, and share our top tips for avoiding costly and time-consuming problems.

What’s Involved in Pump Station Installation?

Our team boasts extensive experience in designing and installing drainage systems for both private and public sector projects. We strictly adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations, ensuring a smooth process from start to finish. Our goal is to provide reliable, high-quality drainage solutions that meet our clients’ specific needs.

1. Prestart Meeting

Once the pump station chambers are constructed, a member of our contracts team will conduct a prestart meeting to ensure the chambers are ready for installation. Any required adjustments will be addressed at this stage. After confirming everything is in order, we will schedule the first fix.

2. First Fix

The first fix involves installing the pipework, valves, and earth bonding. If the valve chamber drain needs to be cast in the valve chamber base, it will also be installed at this point.

After the pipework installation, the following tasks will be completed:

  • Installation of permanent pipework supports and benching of all chambers in line with SFA / DCG / SSG (Sewers for Adoption / Design & Construction Guidance / Sewer Sector Guidance).
  • Restoration of the surrounding ground and construction of the compound.
  • Installation of ancillary items, such as ladders.
  • Construction of the kiosk plinth and installation of the kiosk and any intermediate kiosks/draw pits.

3. Second Fix

Once the first fix is complete, the second fix begins. This stage includes installing the pumps and control equipment, pulling through cables, and commissioning the system. If a permanent power supply is unavailable, a return visit will be necessary to complete the commissioning.

Telemetry will then be installed and set up.

How to Prepare for a Smooth and Efficient Installation

Efficiency in pump station installation relies heavily on maintaining good communication with your supplier.

Proper site preparation and timely groundworks are essential for a smooth installation. Ensure these tasks are completed according to the plans made during the conception and design phase. Effective communication with your supplier is key to achieving this.

4. Next Steps

After your pump station is successfully installed and all necessary checks and snagging are complete, it will be ready for adoption by the local water authority.

As leading industry experts in pump stations and complete water in, waste out solutions, Groundsource Drainage provides the consistency and professionalism required for streamlined installation and adoption of your pump station.
